The Chanters were chartered in 1924 for the purpose of organizing singing Nobles to perform choral presentations and entertainment at ceremonial functions. The Chanters also provide music and entertainment at memorial services, the Shrine Circus, other Masonic bodies and community functions as publicity agents for the Temple.

The Chanters perform regularly in local areas such as retirement homes, Masonic Lodges, Eastern Star Chapters and malls.

The desire, and not necessarily the great ability, to sing is the singular requirement of members of the Chanters Unit. The Chanters are not “musicians” and most cannot read music. Most can generally carry a tune and enjoy singing in a group. Performance dress is provided.

Personal membership requirements include annual dues of $24.00, annual assessments of $150.00, and regular attendance at practice.
